Over the past month and a half, the Rensselaer Society of Engineering Innovation (RSEi) has been thrilled to open its doors to welcome new students through a series of recruitment and professional development events.
We kicked off the semester with Burgers and Board Games, a crowd favorite that set a new record for attendance. The event offered prospective members a chance to meet RSEi brothers in a relaxed setting, complete with homemade burgers, fries, and plenty of friendly competition over classic board games.

From there, we shifted gears toward career development with our three-part Career Fair Prep Series. The first two sessions, Resume Review and Elevator Pitch Advice, helped attendees refine their professional materials and sharpen their personal introductions. The series concluded with a Mock Career Fair hosted in partnership with Aireon and CEO Don Thoma, where participants practiced their networking skills with real recruitment staff ahead of RPI’s Fall Career Fair. The experience was helpful for many students, providing both confidence and constructive feedback before the real career fair.

In between professional events, RSEi also hosted several opportunities for creativity and community building. The IED Mini Project Workshop and IED Project Ideation Session encouraged students to brainstorm and prototype new engineering ideas, while our Open House & Tours gave visitors a behind-the-scenes look at RSEi‘s projects, workspace, and traditions. And for those who just wanted to unwind and have fun, our Karaoke Night brought plenty of laughter and memorable performances.

As we moved into October, we continued to balance professional insight with social connection. We began the month with the Scott Rice IT Talk, which offered a thoughtful discussion on leadership and innovation in the tech industry. This was followed by our Autumnal Picnic, a relaxed evening with a live jazz band that brought members and recruits together over food, games, and conversation. Later in the month, we hosted the Lally Master’s Program Seminar, giving attendees a closer look at opportunities to combine engineering expertise with business through RPI’s graduate programs.

The recruitment season wrapped up with our Invite-Only Interviews, where candidates had the chance to share their experiences, ideas, and enthusiasm for RSEi. We proudly welcomed our newest associate members with homemade dinner and cannot wait to see their involvement in the organization, as they have already demonstrated a strong spirit of innovation, teamwork, and curiosity. Their addition marks an exciting new chapter for the society, and we can’t wait for their ideas and energy they’ll bring to the house.
