The History

The Rensselaer Society of Engineers House at 1501 Sage Ave, designed by renowned architect Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue, was built in 1923–1924 to serve as a residential and academic space for RSE members at RPI. Designed to separate daily living functions like studying, sleeping, and dining, the building has remained largely unchanged, preserving Goodhue’s original vision. While some interior modifications and major repairs, such as plumbing, electrical upgrades, and porch restoration, have occurred, the house continues to reflect its historic character and purpose.

What The House Offers

Workshop

Our workshop provides the perfect space for students to work on their projects and forge innovation. With state of the art equipment and 3D printers, students can utilize the space for any idea or project they’d like.

Library

Our library not only offers students access to several textbooks on a multitude of subjects, but also gives them a space to hang out and study with their peers.

Housing

Our house, besides being a registered historic place, is equipped with [Ask Charlie how many bedrooms] to house our members. We create a living environment that is friendly and safe, inducing life-long bonds with roommates and other members.

Kitchen and Chef

Our kitchen is home to industrial sized fridges, sinks, and stoves, making it easy for our house chef to cook meals for our members during the week. On the RSEi meal plan, you get access to three meals a day Monday-Friday.

Fun

Although our members are very academic focused, we still know how to have some fun. In the house we have a pool table, a ping pong table, a place to play pickle ball, a regulation size sand volleyball court, and our own at home gym. Whatever it is you like to do, there’s most likely a chance you can find it in our house.
